Mongongo oil, extracted from the nuts of the mongongo tree (Schinziophyton rautanenii), has been a secret of African women for centuries. This precious oil offers intensive skin care and combines tradition with modern dermatology. Its rich composition of vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and minerals such as zinc, copper, and iron makes it an indispensable ingredient for demanding skin—especially during pregnancy.
The Mongongo tree, also known as the "Tree of Life," grows in the harsh environment of the Kalahari Desert and is a symbol of resilience and sustainability. The tree's nuts are rich in valuable ingredients, which are extracted using traditional and environmentally friendly methods. Mongongo oil is not just a raw material, but a sustainable legacy that naturally strengthens and nourishes the skin.
African women have been using what nature offers them for centuries. They possess valuable knowledge that has been continually expanded and added to over time. We can all benefit from this knowledge. We work closely with Namib Desert Jojoba, a company that places great emphasis on sustainable and socio-ecological cultivation. It supports communal farmers in establishing their own plantations, as well as well over 1,000 Namibian women who call rural regions home. The women usually harvest the fruit: a manageable task, as the fruit usually falls from the trees while still green and ripens on the ground. All that needs to be done then is to be collected. Our partner's commitment offers many local families a secure income and a fair chance at a good future.
To ensure a consistently high-quality product, Mongongo oil is extracted under special conditions and using German technology. Strict quality controls and laboratory tests are regularly conducted. Our Mongongo oil from the Kamasa tribe is native and cold-pressed. It is naturally free of parabens, mineral oil, and PEG. It is very well tolerated, and the oil leaves a pleasant feeling on the skin. However, it is not suitable for human consumption.
The special properties of mongongo oil make it a true treat for the skin:
Mongongo oil forms a protective lipid layer that reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and provides the skin with long-lasting moisture. Linoleic acids strengthen the skin barrier and make it supple.
Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, protects the skin from oxidative stress and environmental damage. At the same time, minerals such as zinc promote cell regeneration, which supports the renewal of the epidermis.
Mongongo oil has anti-inflammatory properties and soothes irritated or inflamed skin. It helps maintain skin elasticity and reduce existing stretch marks, especially in cases of stretch marks. Its polyunsaturated fatty acids can smooth fine lines and wrinkles, making the skin appear plumper and smoother.
The fatty acids in mongongo oil react with UV rays and form a light protective layer against solar radiation – a natural addition to skin protection
For IMMERKIND®, mongongo oil is at the heart of skincare because it both fulfills the natural needs of sensitive skin and meets the highest quality standards. It protects, regenerates, and strengthens the skin – perfect for the special challenges of pregnancy and beyond. With mongongo oil, we offer a high-quality, nature-based solution for the care of mother and child – for skin that feels soft, healthy, and strengthened.
